After Two Playoff Seasons, Johnson Quits
Davey Johnson (pictured) took Baltimore to the playoffs during the two years he served as manager of the Orioles. But after a bitter power struggle and disagreements with majority owner Peter Angelos, Johnson resigned on Nov. 5, 1997, just a few hours before he was named the AL's manager of the year by the Baseball Writers of America.

From the beginning of the 1997 season, B.J. Surhoff (pictured) and the Orioles were in first place in the AL East. Expectations were high for the Orioles and their fans were treated to a fabulous regular season. But, hopes for a World Series title came to a crashing end on Oct. 14 when Cleveland ended the ALCS in the 11th inning of Game 6 when Tony Fernandez homered, giving the Indians a 1-0 victory.
