It looks like Clay Buchholz is returning to the AL East.

Buchholz, who played with the Boston Red Sox from 2007-16, agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, according to MLB.com. The team hasn’t announced the deal yet.

Following a couple of injury-plagued seasons, Buchholz had a career rebirth with the Diamondbacks last season, going 7-2 with a 2.01 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

The right-hander burst onto the scene in 2007, throwing a no-hitter in his second major league start. Buchholz made it through two more starts his rookie season before the Red Sox decided to shut him down because of shoulder fatigue.

That was just the start of the injuries for Buchholz, a two-time World Series winner. He suffered a pulled hamstring in 2010 after making the All-Star team, had a lower-back stress fracture in 2011, right shoulder bursitis in 2013 and a knee injury in 2014.

The hard luck continued in 2015 as Buchholz suffered an elbow injury that bothered him for two years. It was followed by forearm surgery that cost him most of the 2017 season while he was with the Phillies.

Buchholz signed a minor league deal with the Royals last season, but Kansas City, who was in rebuilding mode, chose to keep him in Triple-A Omaha, so he decided to opt out of the deal.

Despite his numerous injuries, Buchholz still has an 88-64 career record with a 3.86 ERA. If he remains healthy, he can provide some depth and veteran experience to a Blue Jays pitching staff that will have to contend with two AL East powerhouses in the Red Sox and the Yankees.
